CLASSIC HELD MONDAY, APRIL 30, 2001 The
Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame annual Golf Classic was held Monday, April 30th
at the Springhouse Golf Club at Opryland Hotel and another outstanding field of
20, five-person teams enjoyed a perfect day for golf along with great fun and
fellowship. Taking
first place was a strong contingency of golfers representing First Tennessee along
with celebrity Vince Gill, former TSHF Tennessean of the Year and Country Music
superstar. Members of the winning team included: Mike
Hendron, Bond Oman, John Stone and Todd Carter. The First Tennessee team posted
an outstanding score of 55, 17 under par. In
second place, only one stroke back at 56, was the Stokes, Bartholomew, Evans &
Petree team. They were joined by All-Pro punter for the Tennessee Titans, Craig
Hentrich, one of the outstanding golfers in the NFL. Members
of the Stokes, Bartholomew team included: Russell Harwell, Don Kohanski, Larry
Stewart and Albert Bart. Rounding
out the top three finishers was the Billy Fletcher team representing the "M"
Club from the University of Memphis. Fletcher's team finished two strokes off
the lead with a score of 57. Members of the "M"
Club Team included: Wayne Atkins, Mike Richmond, "Bubba" Winkler and
State Representative Todd Curry. A
special feature at this year's tournament was Wilson Golf representative Don Bowling,
who along with his associates, manned the Wilson tent throughout the day and provided
the latest in Wilson products to be tested and also gave all golfers a sleeve
of Wilson balls. " Don and his folks certainly added to our tournament this
year. I hope they will be back with us in 2002," said Mason Rudolph, TSHF
tourney chairman. "Once
again, we want to thank everyone for supporting our major fundraising effort of
the year," said Rudolph. "We were lucky to have a beautiful day and
our friends at the Springhouse Golf Club, Mike Nedrow, Director of Golf; Ryan
Scott, Head Professional and Pro Mike Durden did a super job for us. We're already
looking forward to returning to Springhouse next year." |
