Biography

The state of Tennessee was well represented at last years Olympic games in Sydney, Australia. Among the representatives from the Volunteer State competing in the Sydney games were Jennifer McFalls, Nashville, a member of the women’s softball team who captured the gold medal; and Linden Wiesman, Columbia, TN, a member of the U.S. equestrian team who brought home the bronze medal in the three-day Olympic event.
Two former Lady Vols, Nikki McCray and Chamique Holdsclaw, who also both currently play for the Washington Mystics in the WNBA, were members of the women’s gold medal basketball team. Allan Houston, former Tennessee basketball great, who now plays for the New York Nicks, was a member of the men’s gold medal basketball team. In addition, Lawrence Johnson, a former member of the U-T Track team, won the silver medal in the pole vault. Tom Pappas, a 1999 Tennessee graduate, won a silver medal in the decathlon. Cindy Parlow, Memphis, was a member of the gold medal women’s soccer team. Julia Stowers won the gold medal in the 4 X 200 women’s relay swimming team and Ernie Young and Travis Dawkins were members of the men’s baseball team winning the gold medal. Other Tennesseans participating the Sydney Games include: Andy Bloom, shot put; Tony Cosey, track and field and Gabrielle Rose, 200 IM swimming.
