2004 Amateur Team of the Year

Farragut High School Baseball Team

This year, two high school teams are being honored for their outstanding records and also for their most unusual connection. Both the Farragut boys' soccer and baseball teams had excellent seasons in 2003. Coincidentally, both teams won their AAA State Championships on the same day, on side-by-side fields, and each lost only one game during the season.

The Farragut baseball team finished the season on a 36-game winning streak for a final record of 48-1. The team also became state champions on April 17th and set a TSSAA record for most victories in a season. Teammates Kyle Waldrop and Craig Cobb received individual honors, and Coach Tommy Pharr was selected as the AAA "State Coach of the Year" and "National Coach of the Year" by the National High School Baseball Coaches Association. The team finished the season ranked No. 2 in the nation.
