2004 Female Amateur Athlete of the Year

Kara Lawson

A 2003 Finalist for NCAA Woman of the Year, Kara Lawson is not only a fantastic athlete but also an academic role model. In her senior season playing with the Tennessee Lady Vols, she was named Kodak All-American, UT Basketball Athlete of the Year, first team All-SEC, a Naismith Award honoree, and a member of the 2003 NCAA Women's Final Four All-Tournament team. She owns several school records including career three-point field goals (256), three-point field goals attempted (617) and free throw percentage (84.7).

 

In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Lawson was a Verizon Academic All-American (3.76 GPA), academic All-SEC, graduated magna cum laude, was a recipient of the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars Athlete of the Year, and was awarded the Tennessee's Torchbearer Award, the highest student honor at the university.
