Last year,
only one team in Tennessee advanced to be the national champion
of their sport. The Cumberland University Bulldogs baseball
team, coached by Woody Hunt, was just the team to do it.
The Bulldogs
of Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee advanced through
tournament play with 15 consecutive victories.

After
winning the Trans-South Conference Championship, the Regional
and the Super Regional Tournaments, the Bulldogs found themselves
facing the number one ranked team in the country, the Oklahoma
City Stars, in the NAIA College World Series title game.
The stage was set and the Bulldogs came from behind to defeat
the Stars 10-3. First baseman, Donnie Burkhalter, was named
MVP of the World Series; Outfielder Charlie MacFarland, received
All-America honors and four additional players made the All-Tournament
team.
The Bulldogs
set a school record for most wins in a season with a record
of 59-2I. In his career at Cumberland, Woody Hunt has coached
more than 40 All-Americans and 63 players who went on to play
professionally.
