Male Amateur Athlete of the Year

David Price

David Price, born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was named Third-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball-Writers Association after his outstanding season pitching for the Vanderbilt Commodores. David set a school record for strikeouts in a single season with 155 in 110 innings with just 43 walks.

As a sophomore in 2006, David was one of five finalists for the Golden Spikes Award, given to the top player in college baseball and was a semifinalist for the Roger Clemens Award, given to the top pitcher in college baseball.

He was named second-team All-SEC and first-team All South Region.

Price was a three-time National Pitcher of the Week honoree and finished the year with 12.6 strikeouts per nine innings, third best nationally and No. 1 in the SEC. He was named Baseball America's Summer Player of the Year after going 5-1 with a 0.20 ERA with 61 strikeouts and only seven walks in 44.0 innings for Team USA in the FISU World University Championships in Cuba. He is widely considered to be among the top prospects in next June's amateur baseball draft.
