2008 Female Amateur Athlete of the Year

Tamika Catchings

In 2007, Indiana's "do-everything" forward returned after leading the team in points, rebounds, assists and steals in each of her first five pro seasons - no other WNBA player has led her team in as many categories in even one of those seasons.

Named the WNBA's Defensive Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006, Catchings has finished among the top three in balloting for the WNBA MVP award in four of her five pro seasons, asserting herself as one of the world's premier players.

Catchings is the Indiana Fever's first 2,000-point scorer and its only 1,000-point scorer. And until a season-ending injury in August, she had scored in every game (166) of her pro career. At the time of her injury, she led the WNBA in steals per game (3.14) and was third in the league with 66 total steals.

Catchings is a four-time WNBA All-Star and five-time All-WNBA recipient. She is a member of the WNBA 10th Anniversary All-Decade team, awarded in 2006 and she is the only player in WNBA history to ever rank in the league's top 10 in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and blocked shots in the same season (she has done it twice - in 2002 and 2006).

Catchings was named as a finalist for the 2006 Wooden Citizenship Cup, presented annually to the nation's top professional athlete who exhibits outstanding community service. Catchings is the current president of the WNBA Players Association.
