2008 Amateur Team of the Year

Lambuth University Women's Basketball

The Lambuth University Women's Basketball team defeated TranSouth Athletic Conference rival, Cumberland University 63-50 to win the first NAIA title in program history at the 27th Annual NAIA Division I Championship at Oman Arena.

It was the first NAIA Division I Women's Basketball championship game since 1988 in which both participants were playing in the title game for the first time. Lambuth, fifth in the tournament bracket, was the lowest-seeded champion since the NAIA implemented bracketed quarters in 2003.

Lambuth finished the season 27-9 overall and claimed the NAIA crown after a four-year absence from the national tournament. Reggie Maddox was named Tournament MVP and NAIA All-American.

For his role in the team's success and his efforts to turn around the struggling program, Coach Joe Reints was named the 2007 NAIA Women's Basketball DI Coach of the Year in his second year as head coach.
