2009 Male Professional Athlete of the Year

Chad Clifton

Chad Clifton a Martin, Tennessee native was drafted out of the University of Tennessee by the Green Bay Packers in 2000, where he has developed the reputation as quietly consistent with a textbook technique and an extensive regimen that gets his bumped and bruised body ready for game day, battling through the aches and pains that come with being a nine-year veteran.

Clifton, #76, continues to rank among the finest left tackles in the NFL where he started all 16 games and both playoff contests and was named to his first Pro Bowl.

He played 93.3 percent of the offensive snaps, the fifth straight year he's played at least 93 percent and was ranked as the Packers' top offensive player by Pro Football Weekly and The Sporting News in their respective preseason previews, and went on to lead an offensive line that allowed just 19 sacks on the season and allowed the Packers to rack up 4,461 passing yards, 1,597 rushing yards and 435 points.

A four-year starter (1996-99) for the University of Tennessee, Clifton was a two-time All-Southeastern Conference selection, and played in two national championship games.

An active member of the community, Clifton participated in several benefits and fundraisers including the 2005 Edgar Bennett Celebrity Bowl-A-Thon for the Angel Fund, the Families of Children with Cancer Holiday Party, spokes-person for the annual Packers
Women's Association Food Drive from 2002-04, (along with his wife, Candy), the Trifecta Foundation of line mate Tauscher golf tournament, the Donald Driver Foundation, American Red Cross, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, Green Bay Boys and Girls Club. During the off-season, he actively works with the Boy Scouts in Nashville, Tennessee.
