Girls and Boys Golf Teams

After the Baylor School of Chattanooga cleaned out the store, there weren't many awards left for anyone else to win at last year's TSSAA State Golf Tournament.

And, if anyone is waiting for the Red Raiders dominance to come to an end, there is a good chance you're in for a long wait. Baylor swept both the boys and girls tournament titles in 2001 as well as claiming both medalist winners as Luke List (boys) and Beth Felts (girls) took individual trophies.

For the record, the Lady Raiders have won four consecutive state championships, and the Baylor boys' team owns the last two state titles. Baylor's girls return two All-Americans in senior May Wood and sophomore Beth Felts and a talented freshman in Catherine Hicks. Wood is considered the number one college prospect in the country and won the North/South junior tournament at Pinehurst (N.C.) by six shots.

The Baylor boys' team has won a total of six state championships starting in 1993 and are the first team in TSSAA history to win consecutive titles with the girls from the same school. Luke List, class of 2003, was named the Player of the Year by the Chattanooga Times/Free Press for the second consecutive year.

King 0ehmig, who was named Coach of the Year for both 1999 and 2000 by the Chattanooga Times/Free Press, leads both teams. "I simply try to not mess them up," joked King following last year's state tournament. "I tell our players to go out and play as if you've never won championships. Just go out, be focused and enjoy it."

From the success both the Baylor School boys and girls teams have achieved, they have enjoyed it a lot.
