West Tenn Diamond Jaxx, the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs organization
located in Jackson, TN, capped a stellar year by winning the championship of the
Double-A Southern League. In
addition, the team was listed number two in Baseball America magazine's final
Double-A power rankings. The
team continues to set impressive records to include in the three seasons in the
league, the Diamond Jaxx have finished no worse than second among ten teams in
staff earned run average. Only two teams, since the league began keeping records
in 1970, have struck out more than 1,100 batters in a season. They are the 1999
and 2000 Diamond Jaxx. The
2000 Diamond Jaxx were 80-58 before winning this year's title defeating both Birmingham
and Jacksonville in five-game series. The Jaxx are the only Double-A team with
back-to-back 80-win regular seasons and the only Southern League club to draw
300,000 fans each of the last three years. This year's attendance of 303,419 included
a team-record 13 sellouts at 6,000 seat Pringles Park. The
Diamond Jaxx play at Pringles Park in Jackson and expect to draw their 1,000,000th
all-time fan this April. The team's fourth season of play begins March 31st with
an exhibition against parent Chicago Cubs. The regular season begins at home April
5th. |
