From 1946
through 1949, she played for Cooks Goldblumes of the same
city who won three national AAU championships and was the
runner-up in 1947. An ability to balance offensive acumen
with defensive tenacity combined to earn her and women's basketball
in Tennessee, national recognition.
Gleaves
and her teammates were true pioneers for today's collegiate
coaches and athletes. As a tribute to Gleaves, one of the
most exciting basketball players of all time, her uniform
now hangs in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. She was
inducted to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002.
Margaret
Sexton Gleaves was pleased to know she is a member of the
TSHF Class of 2008. She passed away on December 31, 2007 at
the age of 87.
