Bill Fletcher

A native of Memphis, Billy Fletcher earned All-American honors playing quarterback at South Side High School where he also played basketball, baseball, and ran track.

Fletcher was a member of South Side's state championship track team in the 4 X 400 and 4 x 800 relays.

Following graduation, Fletcher was recruited by major colleges and universities across the country, but he chose to stay at home and play for Memphis State University. Fletcher played for the Tigers from 1963-65 and it was during that period that Memphis State posted its best six-year record in school history.

 

While starring at Memphis State University, Fletcher was named Sports Illustrated National Player of the Week, Associated Press National Player of the Week and UPI National Player of the year.

Following graduation, Fletcher played in the Blue-Gray Game and shortly thereafter was drafted by the Denver Broncos of the National Football League. Following his stint with the NFL, Billy Fletcher returned to Memphis. He has been inducted into the Memphis University M Club Hall of Fame, has been awarded the M Club lifetime Achievement Award, and has been inducted on the All-American Football Foundation Hall of Fame.
