Do I nominate someone for induction to the Tennessee Sports
Hall of Fame?
Any citizen
of Tennessee may nominate an individual, living or deceased
who meets the following criteria, to be considered for induction
into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.
- Individuals
nominated for Induction into the Tennessee Sports Hall of
Fame must have by
long association and/ or residence in the State of Tennessee
made an outstanding contribution to the cause of sports
in Tennessee, the nation or the world.
- Male
or female participants in any recognized form of sports
competition are eligible for
nomination.
- All
living candidates must have been in retirement from the
activity or sport for which they are nominated for at least
three years and/or be at least fifty years of age.
To
Nominate an Individual
Print
the nomination form* on our
website or request one from our Nashville office. Follow the
instructions on the form and submit it along with any supporting
materials to the address on the form.
Selection of Inductees
The Selection
of all Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame inductees and honorees
shall be the primary responsibility of the Grand Divisions
of the State of Tennessee; however, final approval shall be
given by the Board of Directors to all honorees and inductees.
Each Grand Division will meet in the fall of the year to make
its recommendations to the full Board.
Election
of all honorees and inductees shall be by majority vote of
the Board at the annual meeting.
Selection
of living inductees shall be limited to eight (8) persons
each year, two (2) persons from each Grand Division and two
(2) persons from the state-at-large. The names of all persons
for the state-at-large shall be placed on a ballot and shall
be voted upon by the Board. Living inductees must have been
in retirement from the activity or sport for which they are
nominated for at least three (3) years or in the alternative,
may still be active in a sport or activity and be fifty (50)
years of age or older.
Each Grand
Division may nominate one (1) candidate for posthumous induction.
No more than two (2) posthumous inductees shall be selected
each year. The names of all persons nominated for posthumous
induction shall be placed on a ballot and shall be voted upon
by the Board.
The Board
may select no more than two (2) Tennessee Amateur players
or teams-of-the-year.
The Board
may select two (2) Tennessee professional players or teams-of-the-year.
The Board
may present no more than two (2) special team awards.
The President
may select an individual or team for the Outstanding Tennessean
award.
