Tusculum's Cordell is region offensive player of the year

Tusculum College record-setting quarterback Bo Cordell has been named the 2013 Daktronics NCAA Division II Super Region Two Offensive Player of the Year.

Cordell and tight end Wesley Powell earned All-Region first team honors, while linebacker Brian Alexander and receiver Justin Houston garnered second-team recognition.

Cordell is the second Tusulum player to winDaktronics Region Player of the Year. He joins quarterback Corey Russell (2008). This also marks the second time Cordell has been named to the Daktronics All-Region Team first team (2010).

Cordel l , a n at ion a l finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy – the Division II National Player of the Year – owns 15 NCAA Division II records.

Carson-Newman University offensive linemen Robbie Ignagni and Alex Taylor, and linebackerJaycob Coleman were na med to t he fi rst tea m , while running back Brandon Baker and defensive lineman Javaris Neal were named to the second team.

Tusculum Opens Regional Play:Fourth-seeded Tusculum (21-10) will open the Southeast Regional volleyball tournament at 5 p.m. Thursday against fifthseeded Anderson (18-14) in Wingate, N.C.

The Trojans (18-14) eliminated the Pioneers in the semifinal round of the South Atlantic Conferencetournament two weeks ago.

In other news: Tusculum College senior libero/defensive specialist Caitlyn Dean has been named to the fi rst te a m of t he A mer ican Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Team. It is the fourth season in a row in which Dean has been named to the team.

Maryville College senior and Bearden High School graduate Ashley Howarth has been namedto the third team of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-South Atlantic Region tea m .

Lincoln Memorial senior defender Sam Adams was named to the fi rst tea m of t he Nation a l Soccer Coaches Association of America Division II All-Southeast Region team. while Tusculum Col lege sen ior m id fielder Monica Perez and junior goalkeeper Marissa Williams were named to the third team.
