A native of Jackson, Tennessee, Artis Hicks played football for the University of Memphis after his graduation from Jackson Central Merry High School in 1997. Hicks was named to The Sporting News Freshman All-America Team and the Conference USA All-Freshman Team in 1998. Hicks was also tabbed First-Team All-Conference USA in 2001, and was selected to play in the East-West Shrine Game.
Following his career at Memphis, Hicks went on to play for 11 seasons in the NFL for the Eagles, Vikings, Redskins, Browns and Dolphins. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in April 2002. He started at left guard for the 2004 season, including his Super Bowl XXXIX appearance in 2005 against the New England Patriots.
He played 118 games during his career, including 71 starts, for the Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, Washington, Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins.
Hicks lives in Tenn., with his wife of 14 years, Jaivonna Hicks, and their four daughters, Rhian, Rheagan, Rhylee and Rhiya. He mentors and coaches student-athletes in high school, college and the NFL. He also has his own outdoors apparel brand, Blknx Inc.
