Scott Altizer, the former director of football operations at Tennessee and a 20-year employee of the UT athletic department, was hired Tuesday as the senior associate athletics director for internal operations at Chattanooga.
According to a press release on Chattanooga’s website, Altizer will oversee all event game operations, recruiting operations, internal communications, facilities and facilities planning for the department. He will also be the lead administrator for assigned sportsand other specific areas within the department.
AD David Blackburn was in his 22nd year in the UT athletic department when he was hired by Chattanooga in April of 2013.
At Tennessee, Altizer worked for the coaching staffs of Phillip Fulmer, Derek Dooley and Butch Jones.
Altizer began hisTennessee career as a graduate assistant in the football recruiting office in 1994. He also served as the director of high school relations and the coordinator of football operations.
Throughout his career, he was most heavily involved in recruiting operations dealing with prospect visits, coaches schedules and the overseeing of recruiting office personnel.He also served as a liaison from the football office to the Thornton Academic Center and Tennessee’s undergraduate admissions office.
Altizer, a Morristown native, left the football program briefly while Lane Kiffin was coach to work in the event management department before returning to the football office to work with Dooley.
