Predators’ Laviolette, coaches named to NHL All-Star Game

January 10th, 2015

The Predators go into Saturday’s game at Minnesota with a record of 27-9-4 in Laviolette’s first season as their coach. They moved into the top spot in the overall NHL standings on a tiebreaker after Thursday’s 3-2 overtime victory against Dallas at Bridgestone Arena.

“I’m happy for the assistant coaches that get to come with also, because I think it really reflects their work as well,” Laviolette said.

Phil Housley and Kevin McCarthy are Nashville’s assistant coaches. Ben Vanderklok coaches the goaltenders.

Darryl Sutter and the Los Angeles Kings’ coaching staff were an automatic selection for the All-Star Game as the defending Stanley Cup champion.

Laviolette was also an All-Star coach in 2011 when he was with Philadelphia.

“We’re excited to be part of it,” he said. “It’s no stress as far as coaching goes and a lot of fun, and those two sentences don’t typically go together.”

The announcement about players in the All-Star roster pool is expected Saturday.
