Larry Kenon is an NBA and ABA star who began his journey in Memphis before achieving national acclaim.
Kenon played collegiately at Memphis State University, where he led the Tigers to the 1973 NCAA Championship Game and earned All-American honors.
He began his pro career in the ABA, winning a title with the New York Nets alongside Julius Erving, and was known for his dynamic scoring and rebounding. After the ABA-NBA merger, Kenon became a two-time NBA All-Star with the San Antonio Spurs and was among the league’s most versatile forwards. Nicknamed “Special K,” he was famous for his athleticism and electrifying style of play.
Kenon’s contributions helped popularize professional basketball in the region, inspiring generations of Memphis players. His induction into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame honors his exceptional playing career, his role in Memphis basketball history, and his lasting impact on the sport.
