Biography

Elston Turner is a Knoxville native who built an outstanding career in basketball both on and off the court. After starring at Austin-East High School, Turner played collegiately at Ole Miss, where he was known for his scoring ability and leadership.

He went on to a multi-year NBA career with stops including the Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, and Chicago Bulls.

After his playing days, Turner became one of the most respected assistant coaches in the NBA, bringing decades of experience and a deep understanding of the game to numerous franchises. He’s served on coaching staffs for teams like the Sacramento Kings, Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets, and Minnesota Timberwolves.

Turner’s commitment to excellence and player development has impacted generations of NBA talent. His induction into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame honors both his playing success and his decades-long contribution to coaching at the game’s highest level.
