Chris Woodruff is a Tennessee tennis legend who has excelled as both a player and a coach.
A native of Knoxville, he won the NCAA Singles Championship in 1993 representing the University of Tennessee, becoming one of the school’s most decorated athletes.
Woodruff went on to a successful professional career on the ATP Tour, highlighted by winning the 1997 Canadian Open and reaching the quarterfinals of the 2000 Australian Open. After retiring, he returned to his alma mater as a coach, ultimately becoming the head coach of the Tennessee men’s tennis program.
Under his leadership, the Vols have become a national powerhouse, earning SEC titles and NCAA Tournament appearances. Known for his intense competitive spirit, deep tactical knowledge, and commitment to developing student-athletes on and off the court, Woodruff has mentored multiple All-Americans and professional players.
His induction into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame honors a lifelong dedication to excellence in tennis and the legacy he continues to build for the Volunteers.
