George Pitts is among Tennessee’s most respected and successful high school basketball coaches, with a career spanning more than 40 years.
He built championship programs at Science Hill, Brentwood Academy, and others, amassing over 1,000 career victories and multiple state titles. Known for his disciplined approach, exceptional basketball IQ, and commitment to fundamentals, Pitts developed generations of talented players who credit him with shaping their athletic and personal lives.
His teams were renowned for their defensive intensity and unselfish play, reflecting his insistence on preparation and teamwork. Pitts also served as a mentor to many young coaches, spreading his knowledge and philosophy across the state. Widely admired for his humility and dedication to education, he earned numerous Coach of the Year honors at both the state and regional levels.
His induction into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame honors a lifetime devoted to teaching, leadership, and the highest ideals of high school athletics in Tennessee.
