NASHVILLE, TN – February 9, 2026 – Memphis basketball legend Bubba Luckett has been named a member of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026. Sponsored by the Tennessee Lottery, the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame honors individuals whose achievements have left a lasting imprint on the history of sports in the state of Tennessee.
“Bubba Luckett has been a transformative figure for basketball in the state of Tennessee for decades,” said Brad Willis, Executive Director of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. “His impact as a standout player, an inspiring head coach, and a mentor to countless young men embodies the values of excellence, leadership, and community that this honor celebrates.”
A 1979 graduate of Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, Luckett was one of the most prolific scorers in school history, holding the school’s all-time scoring record for more than four decades. After high school, he continued his basketball career at the University of Memphis, where he played for four seasons.
Luckett returned to Christian Brothers High School as an assistant coach in the mid-1980s, was named head coach in 1990, and went on to build one of the most successful coaching careers in Tennessee high school basketball history. Over more than three decades as a head coach, he recorded over 700 career victories, led teams to multiple regional championships and state title appearances, and captured a 2022 state championship with a perfect 28-0 record, establishing a legacy of competitive excellence and mentorship.
“Bubba’s influence extends far beyond the wins and the records,” Willis added. “He shaped young men into leaders and helped define what it means to be a champion both on and off the court. His contribution to basketball in Tennessee is enduring and profound.”
Luckett joins Charles McRae, Antone Davis, and the late Reggie Cobb as announced members of the 2026 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class. The full class will be announced over the coming weeks.
The 2026 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, presented by the Tennessee Titans, will be held Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Omni Nashville Downtown. Ticket and event information will be announced at a later date.
