Biography

David Price is one of the most accomplished pitchers in Vanderbilt University and Major League Baseball history. A native of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Price stood out at Blackman High School before enrolling at Vanderbilt, where he led the program’s rise to national dominance.

During his time with the Commodores from 2005 to 2007, Price became a generational talent under head coach Tim Corbin. His junior season in 2007 remains one of the greatest in college baseball history. He swept every major individual honor, including the Golden Spikes Award, the Dick Howser Trophy, and the Roger Clemens Award, while leading Vanderbilt to its first SEC regular-season and tournament titles. He finished his collegiate career as the school’s all-time leader in strikeouts with 441.

Selected first overall in the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays, Price made an immediate impact, helping the franchise reach its first World Series in 2008 as a rookie. Over 14 Major League seasons, he established himself as a premier left-hander, earning five All-Star selections and winning the 2012 American League Cy Young Award.

Price’s postseason legacy was cemented in 2018 when he helped the Boston Red Sox win a World Series championship. His dominant performances in the ALCS and World Series clinchers earned him widespread acclaim as one of the most resilient big-game pitchers of his era. Beyond the diamond, his commitment to his Tennessee roots through the Project One Four foundation has provided lasting support to the Middle Tennessee community.
