The Crichton College Cardinals baseball team, coached by Junior Weaver, was one of three Tennessee teams to win the national championship of their sport in 2005. Weaver, in his first year as Crichton’s head coach, led the team to a 37-17 record and the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) National Championship. Of the team’s many honors, pitcher Noel Baca was named NCCAA First Team All American and the NCCAA National Pitcher of the Year. Coach Weaver was named NCCAA Coach of the Year and six players were named to the All Mid-East Regional Team. The Cardinals left the NCCAA as champions and now will face new challenges as they compete in the NAIA and TranSouth Conference this year.
