The Martin Methodist College women’s soccer team, coached by Gerry Cleary, won the NAIA National Championship in Kansas City near the end of 2005. Their final season record was 24-1. The team allowed only eight goals on the season and was recognized as the number one seed in the tournament. In addition to being the 2005 NAIA Champions, the team was the TranSouth Athletic Conference Regular Season and Tournament Champions and was the NAIA Region XI Champions. Seven RedHawks were named NAIA All-America and Clare Sykes was named Player of the Year. Coach Cleary was named the 2005 Brine/NAIA Coach of the Year, the NAIA Region XI Coach of the Year, and the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Coach of the Year. The RedHawks followed up their championship season with a 2006 TranSouth Athletic Conference Championship and a return to the NAIA National Tournament.
