1973 Tigers teammates that 'brought community together' to be honored

July 8th, 2014

When the University of Memphis Tigers—then referred to as Memphis State—played in the Mid-South Coliseum not only did they create legendary success, they helped bring together a divided city.

Many fans remember the 1973 Memphis Tigers Men’s Basketball team with guys like Larry Finch, Larry Kenon, and Ronnie Robinson suiting up in blue.

Finch passed away in 2011, the head coach, Gene Bartow, passed away in 2012, but on February 8 three teammates—Larry Kenon, Billy Buford, and Bill Laurie—from that beloved team will be honored during halftime of the Memphis Tigers game against Gonzaga at Fedex Forum.

Former teammates and members of Gene Bartow coaching staff are expected to attend the event, as well, while bringing back fond memories for Memphians made 41 years ago in the Bluff City
