With one press release late Tuesday night, one prayer movement for a miracle ended and another seeking healing began.
The United States Naval Academy’s athleticdepartment announced on Twitter at 11:14 p.m. that freshman slotback Will McKamey – a former Mr. Football winner from Grace Christian Academy – had died. He was 19.
McKamey had been hospitalized since last Saturday, when he collapsed during a spring practice at Navy in Annapolis, Md. He was airlifted to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore and u nde r we nt cranial surgery to treat brain swelling and a blood clot, according to social media posts by his parents.
For three days, friends and family awaitedupdates from McKamey’s mother, Kara, via Facebook and posts on Twitter from his father, Randy, who is also the football coach at Grace. A prayer service was held Saturday night at Grace Baptist Church and hashtags on Twitter, such as #WillMiracle and #PrayForWill, galvanized support and prayers for Will McKamey and his family.

She offered this Facebook post: “My dear friends and family, William Dean McKamey met his Lord and Savior this afternoon. There are no words to describe the pain our family feels right now. However we are rejoicing that Will is now on the fields of Heaven … running the football!
