University of Tennessee senior Sarah Bowman made history this year, becoming the first woman in the SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships to win three consecutive titles in the 3000 meters. Bowman, who is from Warrenton, Virginia, covered the distance in 9 minutes, 21.66 seconds to win her third straight crown and give the Lady Volunteers their fifth SEC Indoor champion in that event in the past six seasons. Bowman is also a six-time All-American, NCAA Champion (DMR), Eight-Time SEC Champion, UT Record-Holder (In-DMR/Out-1500m, DMR), NCAA Div. I Indoor Scholar Athlete of the Year, SEC Outdoor Scholar Athlete of the Year, ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American (2nd Team), 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials Finalist, and 2005 Pan Am & USATF Jrs. Champ (1500m).
