Biography

Theophilus Nash Buckingham (1880-1971) was a star fullback and captain of the Tennessee Volunteers’ team, which he also helped coach. He was selected as an All-Southern tackle in 1902. Additionally, Buckingham was a noted marksman and a famous author, devoting much of his writing to the outdoors and inspiring literature and outdoors lovers everywhere. He penned many pieces for Field & Stream, Outdoor Life, and Sports Afield. He was active in Field Judging and was an influential participant in several causes dedicated to the betterment and preservation of hunting and sporting literature. He won a number of awards for his outspokenness about conservation and the necessity of enforcing game laws.
