Walters State Community College Senators head baseball Coach Ken Campbell came to the college in 1999 after years of coaching success at the university and high school levels. Campbell was the head coach at East Tennessee State University for ten years before his arrival at WSCC. The Johnson City native won more games than any other head baseball coach in the history of the university. He guided the Buccaneer program to seven 20-plus win seasons against strong NCAA Division I competition within the southern conference and throughout the nation. In his ten seasons at Walters State, Campbell has a 478-110-1 record for a .812 winning percentage. In 2006, Campbell was named National Junior College Coach of the Year in guiding the Senators to a 61-8 record, and the College’s first ever National Championship. This was also the first National Championship ever won by a Tennessee Junior College Team. In 2007, Campbell guided the Senators to a 43-11 record and a No. 1 National Ranking during the regular season. The Senators returned to Grand Junction again in 2008, their 4th World Series appearance in a 6-year period, collecting an overall record of 55-9 and again winning the regular season TJCCAA Championship, and Coach Campbell was honored with the TJCCAA Coach of the Year. In 2009, the Senators captured the TCCAA Regular Season Championship with a 21-2 conference record and finished the year at 46-11. He was again honored with the TCCAA Coach of the Year Award. Coach Campbell’s teams have set school records in every offensive category since his arrival to Walters State. He has had 19 players drafted since 2000, and has 13 former Walters State players still under contract in the minor leagues. Coach Campbell was inducted into the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association Hall of Fame on February 10, 2010. Campbell and his wife, Margaret, live in Morristown, TN.
