If Jim Gallagher Jr. and his family are behind you on the golf course, you might want to let them play through. Jim is a PGA professional and his wife, Cissye, is a former LPGA touring professional. Jim’s sister Jackie Gallagher-Smith and brother Jeff are both touring professionals. Now that’s an intimidating foursome! Jim lettered for the University of Tennessee golf team, 1980-1983, and is one of the all-time most-decorated UT golfers. He was an All-American in 1982 and All-SEC selection in 1980 and 1982. He won the Indiana Amateur in 1982 and 1983 and the Indiana Open in 1983. Gallagher was also Volunteer Rookie-of-the-Year in 1980 and won the Eastern Kentucky Invitational in 1981. He participated in the NCAA tournament in 1980, 1981, and 1982, and the Vols finished sixth, seventh, and twenty-first. All this success, and he had not even turned pro yet! In his pro career, he has an impressive five tour victories. He won the Greater Milwaukee Open in 1990, the Tour Championship and Anheuser Busch Golf Classic in 1993, and the K-Mart Greater Greensboro Open and FedEx St. Jude Classic in 1995. He was a member of the Ryder Cup team in 1993 and the President’s Cup team in 1994. His career earnings total more than $5 million! UT can certainly be proud of its successful golfer alum, Jim Gallagher Jr.
