Heidi Gillingham was one of those rare athletes who could help raise a basketball program to the next level. This outstanding Vanderbilt center was the recipient of numerous honors and awards. During her Commodore career, she was named first team All-American by Kodak, USBWA, Basketball Times and Women’s Basketball News Service in 1993, was a three-time All-SEC selection, twice appeared on SEC Academic Honor Roll, Sports Illustrated and SEC Player of the Week in ‘93, was a member of Vanderbilt’s first NCAA Final Four team and was elected by the students as Homecoming Queen in 1993. Additionally, Heidi was named 1993 Sportswoman of the Year for the San Antonio Express News, and led the SEC in field goal percentage for three years, blocked shots for four years and set the conference record for most blocked shots in a season with 131. Heidi holds Vanderbilt’s single-season and career records for field goal percentage and blocked shots. Heidi now resides in Mississippi with her husband and son.
