Biography

Kippy Brown began his football career at Sweetwater High School in Sweetwater, Tennessee. He led Sweetwater to the 1971 and 1972 state championships. Following his high school career. Brown attended Memphis State University, where he played quarterback from 1975 to 1977. Notably, Brown’s Tigers upset seventh-ranked Auburn 31-20 in 1975.

After graduating from Memphis State in 1977 with A BA in Communications, Brown switched gears from playing to coaching at his alma mater. Brown served as running backs coach in 1978, and as receivers coach from 1979 to 1980. 

Brown spent a year with the University of Louisville, before coaching at the University of Tennessee from 1983-1989. 

Brown went on to coach in the NFL for the New York Jets from 1990-1992, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers form 1992-1995, the Miami Dolphins from 1996-1999, and the Green Bay Packers in 2000.

After the creation of the XFL in 2001, Brown served as head coach of the Memphis Maniax. 

After the XFL folded after one season, Brown spent four seasons with the Houston Texans, and coached for the Detroit Lions in 2006.
