Biography

Born and raised in Maryville, Tenn., Randy Lambert’s roots with Maryville College run deep. After graduating from Maryville High School in 1972, Lambert attended Maryville College and became a four-year starter for the Maryville College Men’s Basketball team. Over his career, Lambert garnered numerous honors, including being the 16th leading scorer in the nation during his senior season, and he remains the eighth leading scorer in MC’s basketball history.

After graduation, Lambert received his Masters in Physical Education and took his first coaching job at Lenoir City High School. In 1980, Maryville offered Lambert the job of head basketball coach, making the 25-year-old the youngest head coach in the NCAA at the time. 

During his 40-year career at Maryville College, Lambert recorded 20 trips to the NCAA Division III National Tournament, three Sweet Sixteen appearances and one Elite Eight appearance. During his tenure, the Scots had 20-win seasons. Under his leadership as Athletic Director, Maryville College was recognized as one of the South’s most exemplary NCAA Division III programs.

Lambert positively influenced the Maryville community with his summer basketball camps, dedication to numerous boards and participation in the NCAA and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He was inducted into the Maryville College Wall of Fame, Blount County Athletic Hall of Fame, Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame and was honored with the MC Presidential Citation in 2007.
