Biography

Carl Poston began skeet shooting during his 20 years of military service stationed in England, Germany and the U.S. It was during these years that his skill as a marksman was discovered and developed. Before retiring as a Master Sergeant, Poston was a member of competitive skeet shooting teams alongside Generals and Colonels.

While in the military, he organized and managed the Armed Forces Skeet Championships. The Armed Forces skeet team became No. 2 in skeet’s top registered shoots and his base’s skeet team set a world team record of 500/500 (500 hits of 500 shots taken) and 998/1000 in two consecutive tournaments.

While in Colorado, he organized and promoted a new regional skeet shoot, the Pike’s Peak Open, where he gained national recognition. Since 1964, he has won 12 World Shooting Championship titles and four All American titles and the Tennessee State 410 gauge Sr. Championship in 1992. He is a recipient of the Nesbitt State Award and the National Ray Boller Shooting Award for his contributions to the sport of skeet shooting.

Poston was inducted into the Military Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame in 1995, and since then has been inducted into the World Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame, the National Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame and the Hamilton County/Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame. In October 2002, he attended and participated in his 40th World Tournament and still continues to teach and promote the sport of skeet shooting.
