Austin Peay Coaching Legend Dave Loos Announced as 2024 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Inductee

NASHVILLE, TN – February 8, 2024 – Austin Peay basketball coaching legend Dave Loos has been named to the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2024. The long-time head basketball coach of the Governors was surprised with the news Thursday night prior to the Austin Peay-Kennesaw State game in Clarksville. The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame pays homage to the state’s rich sports history and their impact within the community. On behalf of sponsor Tennessee Lottery, the Hall offers free admission at their downtown Nashville location Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Coach Dave Loos is a wonderful example of leadership and sustained success. He is as respected and loved by many for qualities he’s shown both on and off the court,” said Brad Willis, Executive Director of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. “We’re very excited to have Coach Loos as part of our 2024 Class of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.”

Loos played baseball and basketball at Memphis State and spent the 1969 season as a graduate assistant for the Tigers before taking his first Head Basketball Coaching job for Colonial Junior High School in Memphis. Loos went on to become head basketball coach for his alma mater, Mehlville High School, before going on to become the head basketball coach at Christian Brothers University. Loos served as an assistant basketball coach for Memphis State for several seasons before being named head basketball coach at Austin Peay State University in 1991. Loos served as head coach for the Governors from 1990-2017, amassing 420 wins and 9 Ohio Valley Conference Championships during his time in Clarksville. Loos also served as Athletics Director from 1997-2013 at Austin Peay.

The full 2024 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class will be released over the coming weeks.

The 2024 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony, presented by the Tennessee Titans, will be held Saturday, July 20nd at the Omni Nashville Downtown. Ticket information will be announced at a later date.
