Joan Cronan, University of Tennessee women’s athletic director emeritus, will headline the Carson-Newman University Women of Vision annual meeting Saturday, Feb. 21. The event is free. The meeting starts at 10 a.m. in the Stokely Memorial Cafeteria.
Cronan served as women’s athletic director for UT from 1983 until 2012when the men’s and women’s athletic programs merged. Among numerous achievements, Cronan has 10 NCAA titles and 24 SEC tournament championships and was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
Cronan is close to Women of Vision and has been involved with the organization since its founding in spring 2011.
Cronan also serves on the Carson-Newman University Board of Trustees, where her husband, Dr. Thomas Cronan, was professor emeritus of exercise physiology.
“The event is for women who want to learn more about Carson-Newman and are looking for opportunities to get involved,” university spokesman Charles Key said.
Women of Vision is a philanthropic organization for the university and raises money for improvement projects around campus.
The group has helped renovate parts of the Appalachian Cultural Center, the Dougherty Science Center, Swann Hall and the campus library.
“The Women of Vision annual gathering is open toany woman who has a passion for Christian higher education, particularly at Carson-Newman,” Women of Vision president Kay O’Brien said by email.
The organization is open to alumni and all interested women.
