Donny Mayfield of Tennessee Wesleyan College was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Athletic Director of the Year.
The Bulldogs won three conference championships, two tournament championships and four teams qualified for NAIA championship tournaments.
“I am humbled to be selected by my colleagues in the AAC with this honor,” Mayfield said in a school release. “Being chosen for this award is a reflection of the hard work and dedication that our coaching staff and student athletes put forth every season to bring success to TWC.” It’s the third time Mayfield has won the award.
In other news: Penn State athletic director Dave Joyner, who took over at the height of outrage over the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal and hired the Nittany Lions’ last two football coaches, announced that he plans to retire. Joyner, a 1972 graduate of the university, has asked that his duties as athletic director end on Aug. 1.
