Nashville Predators and Hockey Hall of Famer Shea Weber Announced as 2025 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Inductee

April 17th, 2025

NASHVILLE, TN – April 17, 2025 – Former Nashville Predators captain and NHL star Shea Weber has been named to the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2025. Weber was surprised with the announcement on Wednesday night at Bridgestone Arena during the Nashville Predators season finale. The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Tennessee Lottery, celebrates the state’s rich sports heritage and honors those who have made a lasting impact within their communities.

“Shea Weber exemplifies the grit, leadership, and dedication that define a true champion,” said Brad Willis, Executive Director of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. “From his years as the backbone of the Nashville Predators to his impact on the sport of hockey as a whole, Shea has left a lasting legacy in Tennessee. We are honored to welcome him to the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2025.”

A native of Sicamous, British Columbia, Weber was selected by the Nashville Predators in the second round of the 2003 NHL Draft. He quickly became one of the most dominant defensemen in the league, known for his powerful slap shot, physical presence, and leadership on and off the ice. Over the course of 11 seasons with the Predators, Weber served as the team captain from 2010 to 2016.

Weber was a four-time NHL All-Star, a two-time Norris Trophy finalist, and played a key role in leading the Predators to multiple playoff appearances. In 2016, he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens, where he continued his stellar career, leading the team to the Stanley Cup Final in 2021.

Internationally, Weber represented Canada with distinction, winning two Olympic gold medals (2010, 2014) and playing a crucial role in Team Canada’s defensive unit. His ability to dominate at both ends of the ice earned him recognition as one of the most respected defensemen of his generation. Weber was named to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2024.

Beyond his achievements on the ice, Weber was a pillar of the Nashville community, involved in numerous charitable efforts and youth hockey initiatives. His impact extended far beyond the rink, helping to grow the sport in Tennessee and inspiring future generations of players.

Weber joins Tamika Catchings, Chamique Holdsclaw, Andy Kelly, Ron Slay, Joe Behling, the late Jack Jenkins, Chris Woodruff, Deon Grant, Doug Mathews, Derrick Mason, Stephen Gostkowski, Larry Kenon, Priscilla GarySweeney, the late Ronnie Robinson, the late Phillip Clark, Tony Allen, Elston Turner, George Pitts, and Bob Brown as announced members of the Class of 2025.
