February 24th, 2026

NASHVILLE, TN – February 24, 2026 – Oak Ridge native and international basketball standout Jennifer Azzi has been named to the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026. The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Tennessee Lottery, honors individuals who have made a lasting impact on the history of sports in the state of Tennessee.

“Jennifer Azzi’s career is one of the most accomplished in the history of women’s basketball,” said Brad Willis, Executive Director of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. “From her championship success at Stanford to Olympic gold medals and professional leadership, Jennifer has represented Tennessee with excellence at every level of the game. We are proud to welcome her into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026.”

A native of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Azzi was a standout at Oak Ridge High School before earning a scholarship to Stanford University. As the Cardinal’s point guard, she led Stanford to its first NCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship in 1990 and was named the Final Four Most Outstanding Player. That same season, Azzi earned the Wade Trophy, Naismith College Player of the Year honors, and multiple national player of the year awards, becoming one of the most decorated players in collegiate basketball history.

Azzi went on to represent the United States on the international stage, winning Olympic and World Championship gold medals with USA Basketball. She also played professionally in Europe before becoming a founding player in the American Basketball League with the San Jose Lasers. She later competed in the WNBA with the Detroit Shock, Utah Starzz, and San Antonio Silver Stars, finishing her professional career as one of the league’s most accurate three-point shooters.

Following her playing career, Azzi transitioned into coaching and administration, serving as head women’s basketball coach at the University of San Francisco from 2010 to 2016. She later moved into executive leadership roles, including serving as Chief Business Development Officer for the Las Vegas Aces, helping guide the franchise to championship success on and off the court.

“Jennifer Azzi’s legacy extends far beyond her playing days,” Willis added. “She has shaped the game as a coach, executive, and role model for young athletes across the country. Her induction honors not only her on-court excellence, but her lifelong commitment to basketball and leadership.”

Azzi joins Monica Abbott, Matt Cain, Mike Clary, the late Reggie Cobb, Antone Davis, Kermit Davis, Bubba Luckett, Charles McRae, and David Price as announced members of the 2026 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class. The full class will be announced over the coming weeks.

The 2026 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, presented by the Tennessee Titans, will be held Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Omni Nashville Downtown. Ticket and event information will be announced at a later date.
