Olympic Figure Skating Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton Announced as 2024 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Inductee

NASHVILLE, TN – March 14, 2024 – Gold medal winning figure skater, commentator and contributor Scott Hamilton has been named as a member of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2024. Scott was told of the news Thursday evening at the Ford Ice Center in Bellevue during one of Hamilton’s classes at the Scott Hamilton Skating Academy. The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame pays homage to the state’s rich sports history and their impact within the community. On behalf of sponsor Tennessee Lottery, the Hall offers free admission at their downtown Nashville location Tuesday- Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Scott Hamilton is the most recognized male figure skating star in the world, and he has used that platform to give back to the sport and to many wonderful causes,” said Brad Willis, Executive Director of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. “Scott and his family make their home in the Middle Tennessee area, and he continues to give back with the Scott Hamilton Skating Academy and his Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation. We’re excited to induct Scott Hamilton into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.”

Hamilton has won 70 titles, awards and honors during his career, including four United States Championships, four World Championships and a Gold Medal performance in Sarajevo at the 1984 Olympics. Hamilton has been named to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame and the United States Olympics Hall of Fame. Hamilton continues to promote skating as a television analyst/commentator and as a best-selling author.

Having battled cancer since 1997, Hamilton launched the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation, along with several education and survivorship programs including Chemocare.com and the 4th Angel Mentoring Program.

Hamilton is the Founder of the Scott Hamilton Skating Academy at the Ford Ice Centers in Antioch and Bellevue, Tennessee, where he spends time coaching students as part of the Learn to Skate program. Scott and his family make their home in Nashville.

Hamilton joins Millington business owner and philanthropist, the late W.S. “Babe” Howard; ETSU Golf Coaching legend Fred Warren; Nashville-area tennis pro Thay Butchee; the late Charlie Bayless; longtime basketball coach at Happy Valley High School, Tennessee tennis star Paul Annacone; TSU Track legend Jean Patton Latimer; Memphis champion racquetball player and coach Larry Liles; and Austin Peay basketball coaching legend Dave Loos as the only announced members of the 2024 Class. The full 2024 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class will be released over the coming weeks.

The 2024 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony, presented by the Tennessee Titans, will be held Saturday, July 20th at the Omni Nashville Downtown. Ticket information will be announced at a later date.
