Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame says goodbye to longtime Union coach, AD David Blackstock

Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame 2007 Inductee David Blackstock has died at the age of 75.  Blackstock is a 1964 graduate of Union University and coached the Union women’s basketball team to its first NAIA national championship in 1998. Blackstock became director of athletics in 1973 and took over the women’s basketball program in 1981.Over his 18 seasons as head coach, the women’s program had a record of 509-89. During his tenure, Union won 12 conference championships, five district crowns, and had 10 national tournament appearances in his final 12 years.

Blackstock has been inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame, the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, the Jackson-Madison County Hall of Fame, and the Union University Sports Hall of Fame.  In addition to his wife Armita, a 1968 Union graduate, Blackstock is survived by their two children, Dixie and Rebel. He was a member of Englewood Baptist Church in Jackson.
