Chattanooga area tennis legends Alice Tym and Ned Caswell were inducted into the Tennessee Tennis Hall of Fame last night at the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club.
Tym was the leading force in starting the women’s tennis program at the Univ. of Florida as a freshman in the early1960s, once held a top 20 world ranking and also coached the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s program to AIAW national championships in 1977-78.
Caswell is the director of tennis at Baylor School and Manker Patten, has won three world titles and 16 national championships in various age divisions.
He coached Anderson (S.C.) Junior College to a national title in 1962 and the Baylor girls tennis team have won the last three TSSAA D-II AA championships.
He was Southern Conference champion, SoCon most valuable player and All-American at Furman in the mid-1980s.
