UTC Football: One of Three with 8 Wins in Tennessee

Sixteen colleges and universities in Tennessee field varsity football teams in Tennessee and three schools from three different NCAA divisions all have eight wins.

Maryville College (D-III, USA South), the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (D-I FCS) and Carson Newman (D-II, South Atlantic Conf.) each have eight wins, while the Scots from Maryville (8-1) sits atop the list with the best win percentage leads with 88.9%, closely followed by UTC and C-N at 80%.

The last time UTC was 8-2 was 1980 (finished 8-3) and current head coach Russ Huesman was a junior defensive back for the Mocs.

Maryville College … 8-1, 6-0

(D-III) … USA South Champs … headed to D-III playoffs for first time in school history

Chattanooga … 8-2, 6-1

(D-I, Southern Conf.) … defeated Wofford, 20-10 to clinch share of Southern Conference title … can win SoCon title outright with win at Samford 9/16 … first 8-win season since 1980

Carson-Newman … 8-2, 4-2

(D-II, South Atlantic Conf.) … beat Newberry, 52-31 … looking for post-season bid … at Wingate 9/16

Rhodes College … 7-2, 4-1

(D-III) beat Hendrix, 55-36 … has won 6 of last 7 … hosts Millsaps(9-0, 5-0) for first place in SAA 9/16

(D-I) … beat Austin Peay, 31-6, in an OVC game

UT-Martin … 6-4, 4-2

(D-I, OVC) lost to U. of Memphis, 21-6

MTSU … 6-4, 4-2
